God's Word is living and active. It's Alive and working for your benefit. Here's how:

1 Corinthians 6:11

It’s alive! You might remember that from the 1930s blockbuster Frankenstein. That exclamation is no less true of God’s Word. It’s alive.

We visited how that word of God’s law is alive how it has a life to it. It’s busy curbing and restraining sin both from us and sin toward us from our neighbors. It’s busy mirroring to us exactly who we are: sinners under God’s law. It’s also busy guiding us not unlike a Sherpa would guide someone up Mount Everest, lighting our path for us.

And the Gospel, the good news from God, is no less alive than this. It is very busy, very active for our benefit. Saint Paul summarizes the the marvelous action of the Gospel this way, he writes:

You were washed, you are sanctified, you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus. (1 Corinthians 6:11)

God’s Gospel, the Good News of Jesus is alive washing you. Washing me. Rinsing us from our sin and our guilt even our death. This is no superficial kind of washing. This isn’t the kind of washing that takes dirt off the surface of our skin so that others might not know that we’re sinners. This is the kind of washing that actually floods our sins away from us. It washes us from the inside out. So that sin and death are gone. The Gospel, the good news of Jesus for sinners, is alive washing you in the name of Jesus, amen.
