God’s Promise

We continue with part 2 of our 3 part series on Noah with Pastor Tony Pittenger. Take a moment today to thank God for his promises.

Genesis 8:8, Psalm 84:1-3

From Genesis chapter 8 verse 8

Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground. (Genesis 8:8)

Well after the raven the Bible tells us Noah sent out a dove. The dove couldn’t find any place to rest the dove couldn’t find any food so it came back to the ark Noah brought it back inside and he waited another week.

Then the Bible tells us that he sent the dove out again and this time it returned with a fresh olive leaf in its beak. That meant plants and trees were starting to grow again, but the dove came back. Which means there still wasn’t a place for it to rest or to nest in so Noah brought it back into the ark and he waited still another week.

Seven more days.

When he let the dove go a third time that time it did not come back. It had found enough seeds to eat, branches to rest in, so finally Noah himself looked out of an opening in the roof. It had been a year since he had seen dry land but there it was. There it was just as God had said it would be.

Now Noah and his family could live in peace. They could tell their children and their grandchildren about God’s work. They could tell him about Adam and Eve and how sin came into the world and in the flood they could tell them how bad sin really can become. But they could especially tell them about the promise God made to Eve, the promise that one day, no matter how long it would take, one day a Savior would come. A savior would come and bring all people to a place of perfect rest. He’d pay for our sins he would even remove the cause of sin and he would make all people holy in God’s sight.

Listen to Psalm 84 verses one through three

How lovely is your dwelling place,
Lord Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
Lord Almighty, my King and my God. (Psalm 84:1-3)

That home is heaven and that home is yours. God has it ready and God has it waiting for you for all his people. One day all sin, sadness, one day it will finally come to an end and we will be safe with God. For Jesus sake, amen.
