Blessings and Benefits of the Ascension

Can you imagine if your sibling was elected president? Or made king? What blessings and benefits would that bring! Today we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus. Pastor Brad Kerkow joins us to tell us about the blessings and benefits that come from having Jesus on the throne of heaven.

Acts 1:9

If you have a sibling, can you imagine if your brother or your sister got elected to become a senator, or even better, to be the President of the United States? Can you imagine what blessings and benefits would come from that for you?

You would be invited to Washington, maybe you’d go to a state dinner. Think of the people that you would get to know, all the privileges that would come along with that because your sister or brother was the president.

One of the big festivals of the Christian Church is the Ascension of our Lord. We read in Acts chapter 1

After he said these things, he was taken up while they were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight. (Acts 1:9)

Jesus ascended into heaven, but notice that Jesus doesn’t just ascend spiritually, but bodily as a full human being.

Do you know what this means? Now one of us, a human being, is now at the highest throne that there is in heaven! What privileges and blessings come to us because of that?

Our race, the human race, was a fallen race. Because of our sins we deserve nothing but hell. But Jesus left that powerful position, that throne, and he became one of us, a real human being. And because of his perfect life, his innocent death on the cross, and his resurrection, he accomplished salvation and so now he has resumed that powerful throne, that position, all of his glory and authority he now has once again for you and for me.

He now represents you as your mediator before God and he says Father don’t count their sins against them, I’ve covered them. And you can now go with your requests to the highest throne that there is in the universe. What a privilege! And one day Jesus is going to bring you there for a feast which will be more magnificent than any state banquet. You will be there at the feast of eternal life. Amen.
