Your Ransom Price
1 Timothy 2:5-6
King of England, Richard the Lionheart, was sailing back from the Crusades when bad weather hit. He was forced to land at Corfu. His soldiers and he disguised themselves as Knights Templar and traveled back through Central Europe.
All went well until they reached Vienna. There Richard was recognized and Leopold the fifth took him as hostage. A ransom of 150,000 marks was set, two to three times the annual revenue of England. It’s been estimated that today it would be the equivalent of 3.3 billion dollars.
That’s an astronomical ransom! Yet someone has paid much more for you. In first Timothy chapter 2 we read
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. (1 Timothy 2:5-6)
God loved you so much that he paid your ransom price. It wasn’t with gold or silver it was with Jesus innocent suffering and death and with his holy precious blood. Jesus ransomed you by taking the guilt of your sins into his own body and paying the price. Jesus ransomed you by living a perfect life so that his blood would wash and cleanse you of all your sins.
God must love you a great deal if he was willing to pay so much for you and he does. He loves and forgives you because of Jesus. You are his child and he wants you to be with him in heaven, so live in his love, be assured that you have been ransomed and that heaven is yours, because of Jesus. Amen.
