Richest of Fare

Isaiah 55:1-2

Are you a hard worker? Many of us pour our time and energy into our careers and occupations.

Why do we do this? Sometimes it’s for the sense of achievement, but more often than not it’s for the money. We have bills to pay, kids to clothe and feed, homes and cars to purchase, places we want to go and see, and things we want to do. All require money.

So we work hard to get it, but in this pursuit of earthly happiness we can often neglect a very important part of us: our soul. God extends an invitation to you in Isaiah chapter he says:

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

“Your soul will delight in the richest of fare.” God wants to feed you. He knows that there’s gonna come a time when earthly food will no longer support your body. You will die. At that time the only thing that is important is “is your soul alive?” –Isaiah 55:1-2

So God invites you to come to him so that you may have life, life for the Soul. He feeds your soul on his grace that is his mercy in Jesus the Christ. He sent Jesus to live and die for you so that your sins can be forgiven and so that you could live with him forever in heaven. Through his word he comes to you and feeds your soul and strengthens you in your faith so that you delight in the richest of fare.

So as you pursue your earthly occupation don’t ignore your greatest need: your soul. Eat regularly of God’s Word and then you will know what is important. Then you will know Jesus your Savior. Amen.
