God is our Ruler

Psalm 2:4-6

Who did you vote for in the last election? Now that’s a question that can get you into a heated debate. People have such strong opinions about who should be the President of the United States and who shouldn’t be. They will argue and even resort to personal attacks and name-calling to prove their point.

Now it is important who the President of the United States is, but we have a ruler who is far more important. In Psalm 2 we read:

The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, “I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.” –Psalm 2:4-6

God has installed his king. There is a ruler that he has placed over all people and that is God the Son. God the Son is the judge of the world. And that’s terrifying because he will judge us not according to our thoughts and our opinions on what right and wrong are. He will judge them according to his thoughts.

Thankfully he has revealed those thoughts to us in the Ten Commandments, but it terrifies us because we know when we look at those Commandments that we have not lived the way this judge would have us live. And therefore we deserve to be punished by him.

But this King is not just judge he’s also the Savior. He came in human form to live the perfect life that his law demands and die the death that our sins deserve so that he could lead us to heaven.

Jesus is this King and Savior and he loves you and he wants to lead you to heaven. So submit to him and trust that his life and death has won for you the forgiveness of all your sins. Follow him to heaven. There he will rule over you in love for eternity. Amen
