Family Devotions

Romans 1:16, Psalm 119:105

As a kid growing up I remember every evening my parents sitting down with us as a family at suppertime and after we got finished eating we would spend a little time in God’s Word. Reading through a Bible story or another devotion, saying a prayer, and singing a hymn.

I didn’t always appreciate those evenings there were so many times that I wanted to be outside with my friends playing basketball or whatever else they were doing out in the street. But as an adult I’ve come to appreciate to all of those evenings and time spent in the Lord’s word.

How important it is for us to take time with ourselves our families in God’s Word. We think of what God tells us in Romans chapter 1 verse 16:

I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. — Romans 1:16

We know that God’s Word is powerful. That it brings salvation to us, it increases our faith as it reminds us of our sin and also of our Savior. We also think of God’s Word and Psalm 119 that tells us:

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. — Psalms 119:105

The word also guides us in this life. I want to encourage you as an individual as a family to also take time out of your day to study God’s Word which is the power that he brings to you. To assure you of your forgiveness and his love for you to increase your faith and guide you in your life. Amen.
