Well, Christmas has come and gone. How does that make you feel? Maybe a little bit sad? As we pack away the Christmas tree and Christmas decorations, maybe can feel a little bit sad because we feel like that joy of the Christmas season is perhaps past. Now we return to our mundane everyday workaday life.

Do you ever wish that maybe you could have the joy of Christmas all year round? Well in 1 Peter chapter 1 verses 8-9 it says this

Though you do not see him now, yet by believing in him, you are filled with a joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:8-9)

You see even though the celebration of Jesus birth is now come and passed, we can have joy even now as it describes in our lesson. It says that we are filled with joy that is “inexpressible filled with glory” and the reason why is because we’re receiving the goal of our faith the salvation of our souls. You know it’s a good reminder of our true joy at Christmas.

You know sometimes at Christmas we can get all wrapped up in the presents, in the tree, in the decorations, and the songs, and the cookies, and the family and friends, and all of those things, but it’s a good reminder for us that the Christmas celebration is really all about the birth of our Savior Jesus. And that’s something that we can take with us all year around. Whether or not we have the tree up. Whether or not we have the lights on the house. We can find joy in our Savior Jesus Christ, the one who came to solve the problem of the mundane. The one who came into this simple world, in this simple life, to live and to die for sinners like you and me. To give us hope for a future that is beyond imagination. That is joy never ending. Eternal life with him forever in heaven.

Can ya have Christmas all year round? Yes you can. Remember that Christmas is all about your Savior Jesus Christ remembering him and what he has done for you every day. You will find joy even in the mundane, even in the simple, joy knowing of your eternal salvation through Christ our Lord. Let us pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to find the joy of Christmas all throughout the year. Focusing on the gift of your Son, may we ever have joy through the good and the bad, the highs and the lows, the exciting and the mundane, treasuring him as our Savior from sin. Amen.
