Do you like witnessing an extreme makeover?
It seems that there is a fascination with seeing radical change in individuals. It could be a woman going through a beauty treatment; a man or a woman going through a diet program and losing a ton of weight; it could be a house being demolished and being rebuilt. We love seeing extreme makeovers.
The disciples went through what you might call an extreme makeover, a radical change, after Jesus had died and risen again. He gave many convincing proofs to the disciples that he was alive, but they were still timid. On one occasion Jesus said to them
Look, I am sending you what my Father promised. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high. (Luke 24:49)
Jesus was promising the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost where the disciples would be radically changed by the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost Peter and the other twelve boldly stood up before the crowd and preached the message of Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Those timid fishermen were changed into radical preachers of the gospel. If you have the Spirit you have been radically changed too. You have the gift of faith that Jesus is your Savior and you have the power to tell others that he is their Savior too.
We love an extreme makeover, may God the Holy Spirit work one in you so that you are not only convinced that Jesus is your Savior, but that you tell others about it as well. Amen.
