A Change of Heart

Have you ever changed your mind? Have you ever had a change of heart? Pastor Hartwig tells us how God would have us change our minds, our hearts, and our actions toward him. Share this good news with us today.

Matthew 21:28-32

A man had two sons. He went to the first and said “son, go work in my vineyard today.” The son said “I will not,” but later changed his mind and went.

The father went to the second son and said the same thing. The second son replied “I will,” but then did not go. Which of the two sons did the will of his father?

Jesus used that story to try to get the leaders of the people to see their error. They were critical of Jesus for welcoming sinners they were critical because they thought they were better than the sinners.

Jesus said to them “Amen I tell you: the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.” Matthew 21:31

The leaders of the people noted that the sinners were following Jesus, that Jesus welcomed them.

What had happened in the hearts and minds of the tax collectors and prostitutes? They had a change of heart and mind. They were turning from their sins and heading in a different direction. They were headed towards Jesus.

That’s what God wants you to do when you see your sins. When you see that you have replied “I will not” to the father he wants you to change your mind.

Jesus welcomed sinners, he welcomes people just like you. So come to him and receive his love and forgiveness. Amen.
