Are You Plugged in?
Romans 1:16

If you had a floor lamp that wasn’t working I’m guessing that one of the first things you would check was is it plugged in? It would be foolish to think that a lamp could work if it wasn’t plugged into its power source. You are a little bit the same, though your power source isn’t electricity. It’s God’s Word. Through God’s Word, God comes to us and empowers us spiritually.
In the Epistle to the Romans Paul wrote this
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. (Romans 1:16)
The gospel, the good news that Jesus is the Savior, is a power source for the believer. Now sometimes believers want to become stronger in their faith. They want to be able to do more, be more confident, have a greater understanding. To think that you can make spiritual change without your power source is just like that lamp thinking that it can shine brightly without electricity.
When you want to grow in your faith, when you want to produce the fruits of faith, when you want to be more and more confident that God loves you in Jesus: be connected with his Word. Stay in it regularly. So that the power of that Word can flow into you and through you into your life.
Don’t be ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power of God to the salvation of everyone who believes. Then you will know that Jesus loves you and that your sins are forgiven. May his love and empower you always. Peace be with you, amen.
