Are You an Evil Person?
Matthew 15:19
Are you an evil person? Boy that’s a hard question to consider isn’t it? Because you probably don’t want to know the answer. Are you an evil person? In general we think of ourselves as good. Evil people they’re like: Hitler and Stalin and Saddam Hussein. The murderers and serial rapists. I’m not one of them. So maybe I’m not an evil person.
Well whether you think you’re an evil person or not the better question is does God think you’re an evil person? In Matthew chapter 15. This is what Jesus said
To be sure, out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adultery, sexual sins, theft, false testimonies, and blasphemies. (Matthew 15:19)
We may not like to think of ourselves as evil but when we break God’s law, when we lie, when we cheat, when we have sexually inappropriate thoughts and actions, these show us what is going on inside. And let’s face it the world only gets to see the best of us. Out of our hearts come evil thoughts.
So we may not like the question. Am I an evil person? But it is true.
Because of our sins we are evil.
But what does God think of evil people. He hates sin. He hates them, but he also loves them. Because he sent Jesus to save evil people just like you. All of your sins were placed on him and he suffered and died in your place. When Jesus hung on the cross he was bearing the punishment for all the evil deeds of all mankind yours included.
And so now God forgives evil people just like you. God wants you to be with Him in Heaven forever. So, the question is scary. But God has the solution. May you find it in Jesus, your Savior. Amen.
