Death and Comfort

John 11:25, 35

Death is not something that we like to think much about, but sometimes were forced to.

Maybe we were there at the death of a loved one when they took their last breath. Maybe we were there at the funeral, we saw the casket and the lifeless body.

Death troubles us, causes us great sorrow, as we think about our loved one and how we will no longer be able to talk to them or see them as we were used to. Death also troubled Jesus. He was at the graveside of his friend Lazarus we hear this:

Jesus wept. —John 11:35

He was sorrowful being separated from him, yet Jesus also provides incredible comfort to those who mourn as he said to Lazarus’ sister Martha:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; —John 11:25

Yes, death is something that troubles us, but as Christians we can be reassured that our loved ones who have died trusting in Jesus shall have everlasting life.

We too, trusting in him, shall see them again in glory. Amen.
