What should you look for in a church? You know, there’s a lot of different kinds of churches out there, a lot of different worship styles, a lot of different programs that are offered. But what you really look for? Doesn’t it come down to what that church teaches? After all, Jesus himself said in John 8 to a group of Jews who believed in him, he said,

If you remain in my word, you are really my disciples. You will also know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:31-32)

Now, what good is music that makes you feel good, or maybe programs that get you connected with other people, if a church is telling you lies? What you need is to know the truth of God’s word. You need a church that won’t sugarcoat the law. A church that shows you your own sin.

But you also need a church that doesn’t fail to share with you the gospel. To show the way by which you are truly free, only through your Savior, Jesus Christ. So when looking for a church, don’t base it on worship style and programs base it on what that church teaches so that you might know the truth and the truth will set you free. Amen.
