Ephesians 5:20

I just got done with work. I walked out to the parking lot, jumped in my car, turned the key, nothing. I was pretty sure my battery was dead. So I jumped out of the car, pop the hood, check the terminals, just to make sure there was a good connection there, there was. My battery was dead.

I was trying to work out what I was going to do when suddenly a car came barreling into the parking lot, swerved around right in front of where I was parked, the guy jumped out and said “Can I help you?” I told him that my battery was dead. He had jumper cables, grabbed them quickly, suddenly my car was going.

As I chatted with him afterwards he was just so excited. He’d been looking for an opportunity to say thank you to me. I didn’t remember it, but apparently I sat down with this guy when he was having a really bad day. I listened to him and I shared God’s love with him. I assured him that his sins were forgiven by Jesus. And he was just so thankful for the time and the words that I had shared with him that day.

I didn’t think anything of it, but he did. He had been watching and waiting for an opportunity to say thank you. Do you have a thankful heart? Are you looking for opportunities to be able to say thank you? Thank you to the people around you. Thank you to God. In Ephesians Chapter 5 verse 20 we read

Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We have much for which to be thankful. God surrounds us with people that serve us and love us. Beginning with our parents, our siblings, moving on to close friends, and our spouse, and our own children. God surrounds us with people who love us and serve us. And they deserve our thanks.

God deserves our thanks too. Because he surrounded us in love when he sent his Son to suffer and die in our place. He took away our sins so that we can one day live with him forever in heaven. We didn’t deserve this. In fact, we deserved his wrath and punishment. He chose to love us. And God wants our hearts to be thankful.

So are you looking for opportunity to say thank you to the people around you and to God? They love you. And God proved it by sending his Son to die for you. So may we always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
