Supernatural Powers

"Transfiguration" (noun) "A complete change of form and appearance into a more spiritual state." Jesus' transfiguration on the mountain offers evidence that he was God in human flesh.

Matthew 17:2

I have supernatural powers. If I were to tell you that you’d probably say “prove it.” “What can you do?” “Show it to me.” You would want evidence.

Jesus claimed to be God. If you heard that claim you might say to him “prove it.” “Show it to me.” “What can you do?” Jesus gave many proofs that he is God.

He changed water into wine. He walked on water. He drove out demons. He healed the sick. He raised the dead. But there’s one event that shows that Jesus is supernatural. It happened on the mountain with three disciples. We call it the transfiguration.

Jesus was up there with Peter James and John on that mountain and then suddenly we read in Matthew Chapter 17.

Then he was transfigured in front of them. His face was shining like the sun. His clothing became as white as the light. (Matthew 17:2)

Jesus was changed before them. Notice that it said his face shone like the sun. It wasn’t that the sun was shining on Jesus face, no the light was coming from within him. From this account we see that Jesus is more than just a man. He is God in human flesh.

On that mountain with Moses and Elijah Jesus talked about his suffering and death in Jerusalem. God became man so that he could live and die for you. Jesus has supernatural powers. Yes he can do miracles, but the greatest thing that he can do is forgive your sins and make you a citizen of heaven. That’s power. Amen.
