2 Corinthians 5:17
So the final hours of the year are here eight thousand seven hundred sixty hours ago you were in exactly the same position. Looking forward to a new year, maybe with new dreams and aspirations, the chance for a fresh start. Well, as you look back over the year how did you do? Do you look back and see those goals achieved? Did you become the person you wanted to be? Or have you failed yet again, to keep those resolutions and change the way you want to change?
When we look back we can often be filled with guilt. That actually is a good reason to have a new year. We want a fresh start. We want a chance to do it over again. A chance to make a difference. In Christ you have that chance every day. In Second Corinthians chapter 5 we read:
So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. The new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
In Christ you have a fresh start. You may look at your past and think ‘Ah what a mess I’ve made.’ Maybe you struggled with addictions, maybe you struggled with sexuality, maybe struggled with just being a jerk.
Christ gives you a new start. Your past has been washed away in his blood. He’s suffered and died in payment for all the terrible things that you have done so that you can have a new tomorrow. In Christ you are a new creation. The old has gone.
So eight thousand seven hundred and sixty hours from now you’ll be sitting in exactly the same position. Looking back over the last eight thousand seven hundred sixty hours and looking forward to the year to come. May this year be for you a year in Christ. May you find in him the strength to turn over a new leaf and live a new life to his glory. Amen.
