“Do I Have to Believe the Whole Bible?”

Can you believe the Bible? Should you? Today we have Pastor Peter Heyn answering these important questions. Rev. Peter Heyn, is currently serving as Pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, OH.

John 17:17

Suddenly you are the emergency room. Your chest feels like an elephant is dancing on it. Doctors and nurses are hovering over you. Your family is in tears.

When things die down, the doctor enters and he tells you that you’ve suffered a heart attack. He then gives you instructions on how you might avoid this in the future. Are you going to believe the word of the doctor? Every word that he says?

I would think that we would. I mean this is a matter of life and death. What about God’s word? What about the Bible? There are people that say that some of it is trustworthy, some of it is not. But some of it is not reliable, how can we know that any of it is reliable?

John 17:17 says:

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. (John 17:17)

God says his word is true. We believe it is true. As those who know Jesus as our Lord and Savior and we know that he, he live for us he died for us. He rose again. We believe every word that he gives us. We believe it’s true.

And our faith is not on shaky ground. First, the books of the Bible, there is more evidence for their documentation than any other ancient book.

Second all the New Testament writers, they wrote within a century of Jesus life and death and resurrection.

Third so many of the historical facts of the Bible have been confirmed by extra biblical evidence.

And finally God promises that his word is true, that his Holy Spirit guided the minds of the Holy writers so we can trust every word.

The Bible is true. You can trust every word, every promise, from beginning to end. Amen.
