“How did we get in this mess?”

Have you have asked yourself that question?

Maybe you were facing financial difficulties, problems in a relationship, whatever it was, “how did I get in this mess?” We searched back through the decisions that we’ve made, the things that we’ve done, and we try to find the real source of what’s causing this problem.

But the real cause is shown us in the Bible.

God had placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, paradise, and told them that they can eat from any tree but one. They were tempted. They were tempted and they ate that fruit. They gave in to that temptation and sinned against God.

We read in Genesis chapter 3:

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. -Genesis 3:6

That’s how we got in this mess. Our first parents Adam and Eve sinned and because they sinned we’re all born sinful. Sin is the reason for the messes in this life. When we look at our decisions we sees the bad choices and sins that we’ve committed. We feel the result, feel the pain.

God, in response to Adam and Eve sinning, promised to send a Savior. He said there would be someone who would come to crush the Serpent’s head.

That someone is Jesus. He has come to take us out of this world of messes to be with him in heaven. He lived and died to forgive all of our sins so that one day we will be there with him.

So what got us into this mess? The answer is: we did.

What will get us out? The answer is: Jesus. Amen.
