Do You Feel Like a Loser?

1 Corinthians 15:57

How is your football team performing this year?

Isn’t it funny how our emotions are so greatly influenced by the success or failure of our team? We’re not on the field dropping the ball, but it’ll make us feel like a loser. We’re not in the endzone catching the ball, but we’ll feel like a winner, Our emotions can be so affected by the success or failure of our team.

You know that’s a pretty strong parallel to how God wants us to feel—not about a team, but about a special player: Jesus.

When we look at our lives we can often feel like losers. We’re not living the life that we want to and certainly not living the life that God wants us to. We’re not the spouses we want to be, we’re not the parents we want to be, we’re not the people we want to be, and we seem so ineffective of bringing about change.

We’re losers.

But God doesn’t want us to look at ourself, he wants us to look at Jesus. In first Corinthians chapter 15 it says:

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. –1 Corinthians 15:57

God sent Jesus to win the victory for us. When Jesus was living a perfect life he wasn’t doing it for himself, he was doing it for you. When Jesus died the death on the cross that your sins deserve, he was doing it for you. And when God raised him from the dead, winning a victory over sin death and Satan, he was doing it for you. He wants you to look to Jesus and to share in his victory.

So as you go forward this week and you see your failings and you feel like a loser, remember Jesus. Look to him for he has lived and died for you. Thanks be to God, he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
