What is the most well-known Bible verse?

Without a doubt it’s John 3:16. It’s often put on billboards, it’s one of the first passages that Christians teach their kids. John 3:16, but why is it the most popular and well-known?

It’s because it says everything that we need to know.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. –John 3:16

The verse teaches us that God doesn’t love just a select few, he loves the entire world. That means he loves you. That means this verse applies to you.

He sent Jesus and gave Jesus to die so that your sins could be forgiven. Now maybe you look at your life and think I’ve been such a terrible person there’s no way God could love me. Notice what that verse says “whoever believes in Him.” That means if you trust that Jesus lived and died for you, you will not perish.

Your sins are forgiven and you will have eternal life in heaven. So it’s a great verse, not just because it’s the most well-known and popular, it’s great because of what it teaches us. It teaches us that God loves us in Jesus and that one day we’ll be in heaven.

So make it your well-known verse too. Amen.
