Do all religions worship the same God? In today’s world and culture which says that everything is relative, many would say that yes we do. God, Allah, Vishnu, they’re all just different masks of the same deity.

And to an extent the popularity of this idea is understandable. I mean we have we have friends, we have co-workers, classmates, family members even, who are of different faiths. We don’t want to say or even think that they might be wrong. But when you look at the religions closely you see that they make different claims to truth that are not compatible.

Religions like Buddhism teach that there is no personal God. Religions like Hinduism teach that there are many gods and you look at the main three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Islam, Christianity they make multiple claims of truth that are mutually exclusive. It especially centers on Jesus of Nazareth.

Islam and Judaism deny that he is any more than a man, maybe a great prophet, but he is the heart and soul of Christianity. We read In John 14:6 that Jesus says

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. (John 14:6)

Acts 4:12 says

There is salvation and no one else, there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

And this is where the real difference lies. Almost every religion is about a path to salvation. And for most of them it’s going to be a path that you have to walk, a certain set of certain rules that you have to follow.

Christianity is different.

What is the message of Scripture? That God saw our brokenness. That he saw our propensity to fall and fail and he said I’m going to do it for them. Christianity is the message that God saw our state and set in motion a plan to save the world. A plan to which you would send His Son, Jesus of Nazareth, God himself in the Son of God, to be born as one of us.

And he was on that first Christmas. He walked this path of salvation for us. He lived the perfect life that we have not. Then he died an innocent death on the cross as the payment for our sins. On the third day he rose again from the grave showing that his payment had been accepted, salvation is yours it’s a gift of God’s grace. No strings attached it’s yours by faith.

There is no other religion that teaches this free and full salvation as a gift of God’s grace. Praise God that he has won the salvation for us and revealed it to us in his word. May God bless us as we share this news of salvation with the world because that’s what it is for, amen.
