Thank God for Mothers!

Thank God for mothers! As we celebrate Mother's Day this weekend we are reminded of God's love for us. God bless all mothers, this weekend and always. πŸ’πŸŒ·πŸŒΉπŸŒΊπŸŒΈπŸŒΌπŸ’

Isaiah 49:15

God, through the prophet Isaiah, poses a question. He asks

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she is borne?” (Isaiah 49:15a)

Mothers are known for their love and compassion for their children. Often that is most clearly evident through the sacrifice that the mother makes. Just consider from the beginning of life the mother’s body gives to the child, providing a place inside where it can shelter and be sustained. After it is born the body of the mother still gives to the child as he nurses at her breast. As he grows up she continues to care for him making sure that he is clothed and well fed, properly educated.

We owe a great deal of thanks to our mothers for the sacrifice and love that they have given us. God, through Isaiah, uses their love, imperfect as it may be, to picture his perfect love for us. After posing the question through Isaiah God said

Though she may forget,
I will not forget you! (Isaiah 49:15b)

Just like our mothers love, God’s love is made clearly evident through sacrifice. He gave His only Son into death for you. Jesus died in payment for all your sins, to take them away. By faith you are God’s dearly loved child. He will never forget you.

So thank God for your mother. If she is still alive thank her for the love and sacrifice that you have received from her. May her love remind you of God’s much greater love for he will never forget you because of his son Jesus. Amen.
